Sumario:The determination of the physicochemical characteristics and the relative percentage of the hydrocarbon and oxygenated components of the essential oil of the leaves of Tagetes minuta L. "Huacatay" of the food market "La Hermelinda" was carried out. The extraction of essential oil of Tagetes minuta L. "Huacatay" was carried out, by means of steam drag using the Clevenger equipment, the yield of the process was 0.57%; the organoleptic characteristics observed were yellow, smell sui géneris, astringent taste and oily texture. The physicochemical characteristics obtained were, relative density 0.8373, refractive index 1.4960, pH 5. It lacks solubility in water and is completely soluble in hexane, chloroform and petroleum ether with respect to solubility in alcohols. Note that the lower the alcohol content, the lower the solubility, being completely soluble in alcohol of 96 °. The percentage of hydrocarbon components determined was 15.25% and the percentage of oxygenated compounds was 41.99%.
