Results: The concentrations 250 mg/ml and 500 mg/ml of alcoholic extract of alfalfa, by means of the modified Kirby Bauer method, showed inhibition of 8.7 mm and 10.4 mm respectively, both being significant; likewise there was a significant effect with the CIM method when compared with the negative control. Conclusion: The alcoholic extract of Medicago sativa tube antibacterial effect on cultures of Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical strain.

La alfalfa es una planta forrajera con actividad antibacteriana. Objetivo: El propósito del presente de investigación fue evaluar el efecto antibacteriano in vitro del extracto alcohólico de Medicago sativa “Alfalfa” en cultivos de Klebsiella pneumoniae cepa clínica. Método: La alfalfa procedió del distrito de Laredo (La Libertad, Perú), mediante el método de maceración con alcohol al 70% se obtuvo extracto alcohólico a concentraciones de 250 mg/ml y 500 mg/ml; se realizó una marcha fitoquímica y se determinó la actividad antibacteriana por el método Kirby Bauer modificado y Concentración Mínima Inhibitoria (CIM). Resultados: Las concentraciones 250 mg/ml y 500 mg/ml de extracto alcohólico de alfalfa, mediante el método de Kirby Bauer modificado, mostraron inhibición de 8.7 mm y 10.4 mm respectivamente, siendo ambos significativos; así mismo hubo efecto significativo con el método CIM al compararlo con el control negativo.
