To determine the risk of urinary tract infection associated with preterm birth in the Belén Hospital of Trujillo in the study period January 2012 - December 2012. METHODS: Case- control study conducted in the Belen Hospital of Trujillo (HBT) from January 2012 to December 2012. Medical records were reviewed. Cases were 50 preterm deliveries of HBT from 01/01/2012 to 31/12/2012 and 50 controls were term deliveries . The association of the study factor was determined by the Chi - square test ( X2 ) and quantified by the odds ratio (OR ), p < 0.05 . RESULTS: The frequency of preterm births in the study period was 494 above 4568 , which represents 9.3% of preterm births. The urinary tract infection is a factor associated with preterm birth in Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo during the period January 2012 -December 2012 ( X2 : 4, 026 , OR: 2.263 , CI :1.013 -5, 052 , p = 0.04 ) , frequency UTI in cases was 64% , while in control group was 44 % CONCLUSION: Urinary Tract Infection is a risk factor associated with preterm delivery
