Sumario:This study aimed to determine hemoglobin, hematocrit and risk of anemia in adult residents of both sexes of the population center of Santa Elena in the province of Viru, La Libertad department, December - 2012; prior informed consent, samples were taken and biochemical determinations of hemoglobin was performed by the method cyanmethaemoglobin and Hematocrit by the method of Microhematocrit. A total of 90 people, 24.4% male and 75.6% female, the level of hemoglobin in 72 people (80%) of the attendees were within normal ranges (Women: 12- 16 g / dL; Men: 14- 18 g / dL), 18 people (20%) with lower values (Women: ˂12 g / dL; Men: ˂14 g / dL) and no villager high values regarding hematocrit levels was found that 84 people (93.3%) were within normal values (Women: 36-46%; Men: 39-51%), and 6 people (6.7%) with lower values (Women: ˂ 36% ; Men: ˂39%) and no villager present high levels. Determining that the residents of Santa Elena have normal levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit considered by most people. Regarding the risk of anemia test that includes questions such as age, body mass index and dietary habits was applied. It was found that 78.89% of anemia have low risk, 12.22% slightly elevated risk, moderate risk 2.22%, 6.67% higher risk, and no person has very high risk of anemia. Applied the chi-square statistical test found significant relationship between age and risk of anemia (p = 0.043), there is also significant relationship between gender and the risk of anemia (p = 0.016) which is less than 5% standard significance, as p˂0,005.
