El presente estudio de investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar si existe relación entre el índice de higiene oral y el nivel de conocimiento sobre higiene oral en los estudiantes del primero al quinto año de secundaria de la Institución Educativa Secundaria “José María Arguedas”, 2022. De tipo cuantitativo de nivel correlacional no experimental y corte transversal ; los instrumentos que se utilizaron para la recolección de datos fueron, un cuestionario constituido por 10 preguntas de opción múltiple validado por 3 jueces expertos en el área de salud pública y una ficha clínica compuesto por el Índice de Higiene Oral Simplificado de Greene y Vermillion que evalúa el índice de placa bacteriana en las piezas dentarias en donde se anotó mediante observación clínica el estado de higiene oral de los estudiantes; aplicada a una muestra de 98 alumnos del 1ro al 5to año de la Institución Educativa. “José María Arguedas” que cumplieron los criterios de selección. El conocimiento sobre higiene oral mostró un nivel regular del 53.0%, bueno en el 23,5% y 23,5% nivel deficiente en los alumnos de la Institución Educativa Secundaria “José María Arguedas”. En el índice de higiene oral se halló un nivel regular del 52%, seguido de un 38,8% en un nivel bueno y 9,2% nivel deficiente. El nivel de conocimiento sobre higiene oral no se correlaciona con el índice de higiene oral de los alumnos de la Institución Educativa Secundaria “José María Arguedas”, 2022. ----- The objective of this research study was to determine if there is a relationship between the oral hygiene index and the level of knowledge about oral hygiene in students from the first to fifth year of secondary school at the “José María Arguedas” Secondary Educational Institution, 2022. Quantitative, non-experimental correlational and cross-sectional level; The instruments that were used for data collection were a questionnaire composed of 10 multiple choice questions validated by 3 expert judges in the area of public health and a clinical record composed of the Greene and Vermillion Simplified Oral Hygiene Index that evaluates the bacterial plaque index in the teeth where the oral hygiene status of the students was noted through clinical observation; applied to a sample of 98 students from the 1st to the 5th year of the Educational Institution. “José María Arguedas” who met the selection criteria. Knowledge about oral hygiene showed a regular level of 53.0%, good level in 23.5% and bad level in 23.5% in the students of the Secondary Educational Institution “José María Arguedas”. In the oral hygiene index, a regular level of 52% was found, followed by 38.8% at a good level and 9.2% at a bad level. The level of knowledge about oral hygiene does not correlate with the oral hygiene index of the students of the “José María Arguedas” Secondary Educational Institution, 2022.
