Descripción
Sumario:This research examines the impact of public investment in health on the prevalence of childhood anemia in the Loreto region, Peru, during the period 2008-2019. Using linear regression econometric models, the study analyzes investment at the national, regional, and local levels, with a particular focus on basic health care. The data were analyzed considering both general investment in health and specific investment in basic health care for each level of government. The results indicate that general public investment in health does not show a significant impact on the reduction of childhood anemia in Loreto. Similarly, specific investments by the national and regional government did not present significant effects on the prevalence of childhood anemia. However, an important finding was found at the local level: investment in basic health care made by local governments was shown to have a significant and negative effect on childhood anemia. Specifically, a 1 percent increase in this investment was associated with a 3.12 percentage point reduction in the prevalence of childhood anemia.
