The business sector is the driving force of a country's economy, with small businesses especially prominent in generating output and employment. Because of this, studying the behavior and structure of the business network is of utmost importance. This doctoral research examines the evolution of fully operational businesses during the 2020–2024 period. Therefore, it is a quantitative-descriptive study with a non-experimental design. After analyzing the results, the following conclusions were reached: the predominant economic activity in the Peruvian business network during the 2020–2024 five year period is Commerce, hosting 1,538,563.00 business units, representing 43.49% of the total. The net change in the stock of companies in Peru's business population was positive by 394,277.00 units. These units were incorporated into the market during the 2020-2024 period, and is the result of the difference between the 1,358,831.00 registered units and the 964,788.00 units that ceased to operate. The majority of companies that began economic activities during the 2020-2024 five-year period were registered in Retail Trade, accounting for 379,657.00 businesses, representing 27.94% of the total. The recurring economic activity in which the deregistered companies operated was Retail Trade, with 177,257.00.
