Descripción
Sumario:This study aimed to determine the relationship between oral health–related quality of life, dental caries, and oral hygiene among students from the Special Basic Education Center of Iquitos in 2025. The research employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The findings showed no statistically significant relationship between oral health–related quality of life and the CPOD/ceod or IHOS indices (p > 0.05). A total of 65.8% of students presented a medium quality of life and 34.2% a high quality of life. Additionally, the type of disability showed a significant association with oral hygiene levels (IHOS) and dental caries experience (CPOD+ceod), indicating that disability-specific characteristics influence these oral health indicators. Regarding oral hygiene, most students (65%) exhibited a regular level, while 35% showed a good level, reflecting vulnerabilities that may affect physical discomfort and psychological well-being. Dental caries experience was moderate in 43.3% of the students, with a combined CPOD+ceod mean of 4.36, confirming that caries remains a prevalent issue that may limit overall well-being. These results highlight the need to strengthen inclusive oral health promotion programs, differentiated care strategies according to disability type, and continuous preventive actions to improve students’ health and quality of life.
