Sumario:Objective To determine if the penitentiary treatment meets the purposes of punishment in the Penitentiary Institute of Men Iquitos, 2017. Methodology The study is non experimental, cross sectional design had as a population 978 inmates and as a sample to 218, the method used was the survey and the applied instrument was a questionnaire of questions that covered all areas of prison treatment and the results are presented according to descriptive statistics in tables. Results More than a third are young adults who barely reach the age of 30, to this we add that there are very few inmates belonging to the older adult group, the prevention of criminal behavior to reduce the occurrence of crime is not working and there is one third of the population that is repeat offenders. The 31.7% of inmates are serving as defendants and the most frequent crimes are against property for aggravated robbery, followed by crimes against public safety in the form of illicit drug trafficking and crimes ag ainst freedom, With a tendency to increase the crimes of TID being equated with the crimes of aggravated robbery, crimes against freedom were also increased. The 57.8% have not completed regular basic education and 1% are illiterate. The inmates enrolled in the shoemaking, carpentry, textile making, computer and craftwork programs, among others, and the products they make with limitations of infrastructure, equipment and instruments are sold mainly by relatives; likewise, they show deficiencies in the assis tance services.
