Objective To determine if the penitentiary treatment meets the purposes of punishment in the Penitentiary Institute of Men Iquitos, 2017. Methodology The study is non experimental, cross sectional design had as a population 978 inmates and as a sample to 218, the method used was the survey and the applied instrument was a questionnaire of questions that covered all areas of prison treatment and the results are presented according to descriptive statistics in tables. Results More than a third are young adults who barely reach the age of 30, to this we add that there are very few inmates belonging to the older adult group, the prevention of criminal behavior to reduce the occurrence of crime is not working and there is one third of the population that is repeat offenders.
