| Sumario: | It is a non-experimental, descriptive observational, cross-sectional and correlational study, with the purpose of evaluating the traditional use and management of medicinal plants for the treatment of diabetes and hypertension and their perceived effectiveness in the residents of the San Martín de Tipishca community, Loreto. The sample was a group of 50 people who show these diseases. The instrument was a structured survey with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability level of 0.745. The normality of the data was determined with the Shapiro Wilk test, and based on this the Rho Spearman correlation was used to obtain more precise conclusions about the trends in the use and perception of medicinal plants in the community. Ancestral knowledge about the use of medicinal plants continues to be a valuable source of treatment for diabetes and hypertension, but its intergenerational transmission is decreasing, which puts its continuity at risk. They report mild to moderate improvements in their symptoms of diabetes and hypertension after the use of medicinal plants, which reflects a positive perception of their effectiveness, although this does not reach the level of conventional treatments. The preference for traditional preparation methods, such as daily decoction, demonstrates a strong cultural and practical link with traditional medicine, keeping alive ancestral practices in the management of chronic diseases. Despite the widespread use of medicinal plants, there is a majority perception that these treatments are less effective than conventional ones, there is a perceived limit in the effectiveness of traditional medicine compared to pharmacological alternatives. |
