Sumario:Oral hygiene in pregnant women is essential to prevent complications, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) emerged as a preventive tool. However, the level of knowledge about its use in this population was unknown. This study evaluated the effect of an oral health program on knowledge about Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) among pregnant women at an IPRESS in Loreto, Peru. The study used a quasi-experimental design with 52 pregnant women, analyzing their knowledge before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the educational intervention. The results showed that initially, 87% of participants had fair knowledge about CPC, while only 4% reached a good level. After the intervention, a significant increase in knowledge was observed, with 12% of pregnant women achieving a good level (p = 0.041). The 'Benefit' dimension showed the most notable improvement, with an increase of 2.0 points (p = 0.000). The participating pregnant women were predominantly homemakers (75%) and in cohabitation (81%), with ages ranging from 18 to 46 years. A high prevalence of oral problems was identified: dental caries (83%) and gingivitis (77%). Despite the intervention, the 'Effect' dimension of CPC maintained low performance (52% incorrect answers), suggesting the need to reinforce this area in future training. The study concludes that the educational program significantly improved knowledge about CPC, particularly its benefits, highlighting its potential as a preventive tool in oral health during pregnancy. Continuous educational strategies are recommended to optimize understanding and use among this vulnerable population.
