Maestría en Economía AgrícolaLa producción de maíz amarillo duro (MAD) podría incrementar su rendimiento y beneficiar a los productores y a la sociedad aprovechando la tecnología existente, especialmente en la semilla certificada; por ello, el objetivo es determinar los beneficios económicos, sociales y ambientales de liberar semillas certificadas de maíz amarillo duro (Zea mays L.) en el Bajo Piura. Se encuestó a 70 productores de MAD. Para estimar los beneficios económicos para el productor, se empleó el Modelo de Presupuesto Parcial en entorno de riesgo. Los beneficios sociales se estimaron con el modelo de Cambio de Excedentes con una simulación de Montecarlo y para evaluar mejoras ambientales se estimó el cambio en el Coeficiente de Impacto Ambiental. Entre los resultados, se tiene que, por el incremento del rendimiento por hectárea (29 por ciento), el margen de utilidad del productor se incrementa en 62,2 por ciento (S/ 2 557.2), la rentabilidad con semilla certificada crece a 96 por ciento, mientras que con semilla no certificada llega a 64 por ciento, y el Índice de Beneficio Costo Marginal es 1,17, con 80,2 por ciento de escenarios positivos. Los consumidores incrementan excedentes en 45 millones de soles, los productores en 89 millones y el excedente social crece en 135 millones. Para el país, la inversión en generación y transferencia de una semilla certificada, de alto rendimiento, es rentable, pues el Valor Actual Neto asciende a 128 millones de soles, en un 95 por ciento de escenarios positivos, con una Tasa Interna de Retorno de 103 por ciento. El Coeficiente de Impacto Ambiental (EIQ) se reduciría en 73,6 por ciento, al usar semilla certificada en la producción de MAD en Piura, como consecuencia del menor uso de pesticidas que contienen los ingredientes activos Chlorpyrifos y Thiodicarb. Es recomendable replicar investigaciones semejantes en otros productos.The production of hard yellow corn (MAD) could increase its yield and benefit producers and society by taking advantage of existing technology, especially certified seed; therefore, the objective is to determine the economic, social and environmental benefits of releasing certified seeds of hard yellow corn (Zea mays L.) in Bajo Piura. 70 MAD producers were surveyed. To estimate economic benefits for the producer, the Partial Budget Model was used in a risk environment. The social benefits are estimated with the Surplus Change model with a Montecarlo simulation and to evaluate environmental improvements, the change in the Environmental Impact Coefficient was estimated. Among the results, it is found that, due to the increase in yield per hectare (29 percent), the producer's profit margin increases by 62.2 percent (S/ 2 557.2) per hectare, the profitability with certified seed grows to 96 percent, while with non-certified seed it reaches 64 percent, and the Marginal Cost Benefit Index is 1.17, with 80,2 percent positive scenarios.
