Maestría en Recursos HídricosEn el presente estudio se analiza por primera vez la variabilidad espacio-temporal, las características y las tendencias de las sequías en el Perú y el peligro de sequías asociado al ENSO (El Niño-Oscilación del Sur), para el periodo de 1970 al 2014. Con este fin, se realizó la regionalización de las sequías utilizando una combinación del método de Análisis de Componentes Principales con el método de Cluster, basado en el Índice de Precipitación Estandarizada (IPE). Finalmente, sobre las regiones delimitadas, se realizó la caracterización de las sequías, análisis de tendencias, correlación con índices océano-atmosféricos y evaluación del peligro de sequía durante el ENSO. Los resultados muestran que, la variabilidad espacio-temporal de las sequías se puede resumir en 8 regiones homogéneas, con diferentes características entre ellas. Así, las tendencias indican un incremento de las sequías en la Vertiente del Titicaca y mayor intensidad y severidad de las sequías en la parte alta de la vertiente del Amazonas, mientras el norte de la Vertiente del Pacífico evidenció tendencia a la reducción de la duración y severidad de las sequías. Considerando un análisis decadal de las sequías (1970-2010), en todas las regiones se ha reducido el número de meses de sequías en la última década (2000-2010) en comparación con décadas anteriores. Asimismo, se encontraron correlaciones significativas entre las series regionales del IPE y algunos índices océano-atmosféricos (C, E, SOI y TPI). Finalmente, la evaluación del peligro de sequía durante el ENSO, identificó un incremento del peligro de sequías en el sur de la vertiente del pacífico, en la vertiente del Titicaca y al sur y norte de la Vertiente del Amazonas bajo anomalías positivas del Índice Oceanográfico del Niño (ONI).This study analyzes for first time the spatio-temporal variability, the characteristics and trends of droughts in Peru, and the hazard of droughts related to ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation), for the period 1970 to 2014. With this purpose, the regionalization of droughts was done using a combination between Principal components Analysis and Cluster methods based on Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). Finally, over the delimited regions, a characterization of droughts, trend analysis, correlation with ocean-atmospheric indices and drought hazard evaluation under ENSO conditions was done. The results show that, the spatio-temporal variability of droughts can be represented by eight homogenous regions, with different characteristics between them. Thus, trends show an increasing of droughts in Titicaca Drainage and more intensity and severity of droughts in High Amazon Basin, while the north of Pacific Basin showed less duration and severity of droughts. Considering a decadal analysis of droughts (1970-2010), the number of months under drought condition was reduced during the last decade over all the regions, in comparison with the last decades. Likewise, significant correlations between regional series of SPI and some ocean-atmospheric indices (C, E, SOI and TPI) were found.
