Maestría en Nutrición PúblicaLa seguridad alimentaria (SA) es el acceso suficiente a alimentos inocuos y nutritivos para satisfacer las necesidades alimentarias y preferencias personales, y llevar una vida sana y activa. En el presente estudio se determinó la seguridad alimentaria de 160 hogares de un Asentamiento humano del distrito de Yurimaguas, departamento de Loreto, Perú; y los factores asociados a la misma. Los hogares seleccionados tenían entre sus miembros a por lo menos un menor de 18 años de edad y una necesidad básica insatisfecha, que para el caso de todos ellos, no contaban con el servicio de desagüe. En estos hogares se aplicó la Escala Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Seguridad Alimentaria (ELCSA) compuesta por 15 ítems y un cuestionario sociodemográfico y socioeconómico. Los hogares se clasificaron con seguridad e inseguridad alimentaria leve, moderada y severa. El 3,1% de los hogares se encontró en SA y el 96,9% con inseguridad alimentaria (IA), (78,8% presentó inseguridad leve, 16,9% inseguridad moderada y 1,2% inseguridad severa). Los hogares que se encontraron en IA tenían un mayor número de menores de edad, las madres de familia tenían un menor nivel educativo y el gasto diario en alimentación era menor en comparación con los hogares que se encontraban con SA. Se concluye que una proporción muy alta de los hogares encuestados en la zona del estudio, se encontraron en IA, aunque mayoritariamente leve.Food security is sufficient access to safe and nutritious foods to satisfy nutritional needs and personal preferences, and to lead a healthy and active life. The current study evaluated food security in 160 households of human settlement of Yurimaguas district, Loreto department, Perú and factors associated with food security. The selected households had among their members at least one child under 18 years of age and an unmet basic need, which for all of them, did not have the sewage service.In these households, the Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale (ELCSA) was applied, consisting of 15 items and a sociodemographic and socioeconomic survey. The households were classified as food secure, or mildly, moderately or severely food insecure. Among households, 3.1% were classified as food secure and 96.9% as food insecure (78.8% as mildly insecure, 16.9% as moderately insecure and 1.2% as severely insecure). Food- insecure households had a greater number of minors, mothers with a lower educational level and the daily expenditure in food was lower in comparison with food-secure households.
