El presente trabajo tuvo por objetivo evaluar el ciclo biológico de Pseudococcus longispinus bajo condiciones de campo y de laboratorio, así como determinar la dinámica poblacional y el nivel de daño económico en un campo de cultivo de Palto. Durante la fase de laboratorio se estudiaron 3 generaciones sucesivas (150 ninfas/generación). Los datos fueron sometidos al modelo estadístico no paramétrico de Kruskall-Wallis, comparándose las medias de las tres generaciones con un nivel de significancia de 0.05. El ciclo biológico completo de la hembra tuvo una duración promedio de 128.8 días a 20.3 °C y 86% de humedad relativas (HR) en la primera, 135.9 días a 16.9 °C y 90% HR en la segunda y 140.2 días a 16.5 °C y 89.5% en la tercera generación. El ciclo biológico completo del macho tuvo una duración promedio de 39.2 días a 23.9 °C y 81.3% HR en la primera, 43.7 días a 17.9 °C y 89.9% HR en la segunda y 44.9 días a 17.1 °C y 90.2% en la tercera generación. Se encontraron diferencias altamente significativas entre las medianas de las tres generaciones estudiadas. Para el estudio de la dinámica poblacional se determinó un tamaño de muestra de 1000 plantas/ha de las cuales se evaluaron 20 plantas a nivel de troncos, hojas y frutos. Los meses donde se encontró mayor presencia de la plaga en el tronco fue durante octubre a marzo (1.5 y 1.7 individuos/metro lineal de tronco), en hojas los meses de mayor abundancia de la plaga fue durante marzo a junio (1.95 individuos/hoja) y en el fruto se encontró que la mayor presencia de chanchito blanco fue en los meses de febrero y marzo (0.6 y 0.7 individuos/frutos). Así mismo el nivel de daño económico se determinó multiplicando el precio del mercado de exportación por el peso del fruto exportable.Avocado crop production in Peru has become one of the most profitable agricultural activities in our country.
