Se incluyeron estudios entre población diagnosticada de blefaritis, disfunción de glándula de Meibonio entre otras afecciones oculares. Resultados: la población incluyó a pacientes adultos y adultos mayores de China, Irán, Turquía y otros países. La muestra analizada varió entre 30 y 335 participantes. Los principales resultados demostraron que en los pacientes tratados con aceite de árbol de té presentaron una mejora significativa de los síntomas comprobados mediante la puntuación OSDI y el TBUT. Algunos estudios también indicaron otros métodos de eficacia comparable al aceite de árbol de té. Conclusión: el uso del aceite de árbol de té presenta una mejora de los síntomas asociados a la blefaritis, DGM y otras afecciones oculares. Sin embargo, pueden presentarse reacciones adversas, principalmente irritación ocular. Se requieren ensayos clínicos multicéntricos para consolidar la evidencia.

Materials and methods: a systematic review was conducted using PRISMA guidelines, with searches in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, and Scobhost. Studies were included in populations diagnosed with blepharitis, meibonian gland dysfunction, and other ocular conditions. Results: the population included adult and older patients from China, Iran, Turkey, and other countries. The analyzed sample ranged from 30 to 335 participants. The main results showed that patients treated with tea tree oil showed significant improvement in symptoms, as assessed by the OSDI and TBUT scores. Some studies also indicated that other methods were equally effective compared to tea tree oil. Conclusion: the use of tea tree oil improves symptoms associated with blepharitis, MGD, and other ocular conditions. However, adverse reactions, primarily eye irritation, may occur.
