description Objetivo: realizar un análisis comparativo de la regulación peruana para productos naturales con la normativa vigente en otros países de Latinoamérica, específicamente Argentina y México. Materiales y métodos: el estudio se desarrolló bajo un enfoque cualitativo y de tipo documental, con un diseño descriptivo y transversal. La población y muestra estuvieron compuestas por las normativas vigentes en Perú, Argentina y México relacionadas con la regulación, registro sanitario, control de calidad, etiquetado y comercialización de productos naturales de origen vegetal. La técnica principal fue el análisis documental, utilizando como instrumentos una ficha de extracción de datos y una matriz comparativa. Resultados: la comparación reveló que Argentina y México poseen marcos regulatorios más específicos y actualizados. Argentina (ANMAT) tiene un enfoque estricto, equiparando los medicamentos herbarios a los farmacéuticos y exigiendo altos estándares de calidad y evidencia científica. México (COFEPRIS) diferencia claramente entre productos herbolarios (con registro) y suplementos alimenticios (notificación/aviso), ofreciendo un marco intermedio pero bien estructurado. Conclusión: las normativas de Argentina y México son más desarrolladas, específicas y técnicamente sustentadas, facilitando un mayor control sobre la calidad y seguridad de los productos naturales. La regulación peruana necesita una urgente actualización y fortalecimiento, incorporando categorías específicas, criterios técnicos estandarizados y requisitos diferenciados según el tipo de producto natural, tomando como referente las fortalezas regulatorias de los países analizados.

Resultados: la comparación reveló que Argentina y México poseen marcos regulatorios más específicos y actualizados. México (COFEPRIS) diferencia claramente entre productos herbolarios (con registro) y suplementos alimenticios (notificación/aviso), ofreciendo un marco intermedio pero bien estructurado. La regulación peruana necesita una urgente actualización y fortalecimiento, incorporando categorías específicas, criterios técnicos estandarizados y requisitos diferenciados según el tipo de producto natural, tomando como referente las fortalezas regulatorias de los países analizados.Objective: to conduct a comparative analysis of Peruvian regulation for natural products with the current regulations in other Latin American countries, specifically Argentina and Mexico. Materials and methods: the study was developed under a qualitative and documentary approach, with a descriptive and cross-sectional design. The population and sample consisted of the current regulations in Peru, Argentina, and Mexico related to the regulation, sanitary registration, quality control, labeling, and commercialization of natural products of plant origin. Results: the comparison revealed that Argentina and Mexico possess more specific and updated regulatory frameworks. Argentina (ANMAT) employs a strict approach, equating herbal medicines with pharmaceutical ones and demanding high standards of quality and scientific evidence. Mexico (COFEPRIS) clearly differentiates between herbal remedies (requiring registration) and dietary supplements (notification/notice), offering an intermediate but well-structured framework. In contrast, Peruvian regulation (DIGEMID) is more general, based on norms more than two decades old (Ley 26842 and DS 010-97-SA), with broad categories that limit the precise classification of natural products, resulting in lower overall regulatory rigor. Conclusion: the regulations in Argentina and Mexico are more developed, specific, and technically supported, facilitating greater control over the quality and safety of natural products.
