description Introducción: la farmacovigilancia es esencial para garantizar la seguridad en el uso de medicamentos, abordando eventos adversos (RAM) que afectan la salud pública. Aunque existen programas de farmacovigilancia en varios países, hay barreras significativas como la falta de capacitación y recursos, que limitan su efectividad. Este trabajo analiza los desafíos y la importancia de estos programas en la mejora de la seguridad del paciente. Método: se realizó una revisión sistemática de 10 artículos científicos, seleccionados de bases de datos como Scielo, Google Académico y Dialnet Plus. Se incluyeron estudios publicados en los últimos cinco años que evalúan los desafíos de la farmacovigilancia, excluyendo investigaciones sobre farmacovigilancia veterinaria. Resultados: los resultados muestran que, a pesar de que muchos programas de farmacovigilancia están activos, enfrentan problemas como la falta de capacitación y recursos. Los profesionales de salud tienen un papel crucial en la notificación de RAM, pero persisten barreras en países en desarrollo. Conclusión: es esencial fortalecer la educación y la capacitación de los profesionales de salud y pacientes, mejorar las regulaciones y protocolos, y garantizar la implementación efectiva de programas de farmacovigilancia para optimizar la seguridad de los medicamentos y reducir los riesgos asociados.

Although pharmacovigilance programs exist in various countries, significant barriers such as lack of training and resources limit their effectiveness. This study analyzes the challenges and the importance of these programs in improving patient safety. Method: a systematic review of 10 scientific articles was conducted, selected from databases such as Scielo, Google Scholar, and Dialnet Plus. Studies published in the last five years evaluating the challenges of pharmacovigilance were included, excluding research on veterinary pharmacovigilance. Results: the results show that, although many pharmacovigilance programs are active, they face issues such as lack of training and resources. Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in reporting ADEs, but barriers persist in developing countries.
