Se identificaron 1,693 estudios, de los cuales se seleccionaron 42 que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión. Se analizaron los efectos secundarios reportados y el nivel de conocimiento de las usuarias. Resultados: los efectos secundarios más comunes incluyen dolores de cabeza, náuseas y sensibilidad mamaria. También se documentaron eventos adversos graves como embarazos ectópicos. Se encontró que el nivel de conocimiento sobre el Levonorgestrel varía significativamente: el 42.9% de las tesis revisadas reportan un nivel medio de conocimiento, el 35.7% alto, y el 21.4% bajo. Conclusiones: hay un aumento en las publicaciones sobre los efectos adversos del Levonorgestrel, indicando una mayor preocupación científica. Se sugiere la necesidad de mejorar la educación y el asesoramiento sobre el uso de este anticonceptivo. Se recomienda fortalecer la educación, capacitar a profesionales de salud, implementar monitoreo continuo y desarrollar políticas de salud reproductiva.

Method: a review of the scientific literature was carried out using databases such as PubMed, Scielo, Elsevier and university repositories. A total of 723 studies were identified, from which 42 were selected that met the inclusion criteria. The reported side effects and the level of knowledge of the users were analyzed. Results: the most common side effects included headaches, nausea and breast tenderness. Serious adverse events such as ectopic pregnancy were also documented. The level of knowledge about Levonorgestrel was found to vary significantly: 42.9% of the reviewed theses report a medium level of knowledge, 35.7% high, and 21.4% low. Conclusions: there is an increase in publications on the adverse effects of Levonorgestrel, indicating increased scientific concern. The variability in knowledge suggests the need to improve education and counseling on the use of this contraceptive.
