La población y muestra se constituyó por 119 pacientes diagnosticados con hipertensión arterial. La técnica fue la encuesta; y los instrumentos fueron un cuestionario validado para cada variable. Resultados: el 61.3% de los pacientes presentaron un nivel de conocimiento regular, el 26.1% tuvieron un conocimiento bueno y el 12.6% un conocimiento deficiente. En cuanto a las prácticas preventivas, el 49.6% de los pacientes presentaron prácticas regulares, el 30.3% adoptaron prácticas adecuadas, mientras que el 20.2% seguían prácticas inadecuadas. La prueba de Chi Cuadrado, obtuvo un p-valor = 0.002, que es menor que el nivel de significancia establecido de 0.05. Conclusiones: existe una relación significativa entre el nivel de conocimientos y las prácticas preventivas sobre hipertensión arterial en los pacientes que acuden a un establecimiento de salud público.

The population and sample consisted of 119 patients diagnosed with arterial hypertension. The technique used was a survey, and the instruments were validated questionnaires for each variable. Results: 61.3% of the patients had a regular level of knowledge, 26.1% had a good level of knowledge, and 12.6% had a poor level of knowledge. Regarding preventive practices, 49.6% of the patients demonstrated regular practices, 30.3% adopted adequate practices, while 20.2% followed inadequate practices. The Chi-Square test resulted in a p-value of 0.002, which is less than the established significance level of 0.05.
