description El objetivo de la presente investigación fue identificar los factores que condicionan a transfusión sanguínea en gestantes. El tipo de investigación fue básica, descriptiva, observacional y cuantitativa, de corte transversal. La muestra fue de 365 gestantes utilizando la fórmula para muestras finitas. Se encontró que el 23.3% de las gestantes necesitaron de transfusión sanguínea y una asociación estadísticamente significativa (p < 0.05) entre el grado de instrucción, anemia hasta 6 meses previos al embarazo actual, uso de transfusión sanguínea hasta 6 meses previos al embarazo actual, signos y síntomas, diagnóstico clínico de hemorragias durante la segunda mitad del embarazo y anemia durante la gestación y diagnostico laboratorial. Se concluye que la prevalencia de transfusión sanguínea en gestantes fue del 23.3% (IC 95% 19.05 – 27.97) y que existe una relación estadísticamente significativa entre los factores epidemiológicos y clínicos con el uso de transfusión sanguínea en gestantes.
