La población fue de 4515 recién nacidos en el hospital Nacional Sergio E. Bernales, la muestra incluyó a todos los recién nacidos vivos dentro de la institución hospitalaria, de gestación única; se excluyeron recién nacidos de gestación múltiple, anomalías cromosómicas y genéticas y aquellas que son incompatibles con la vida.
