Sumario:This thesis has as target to understand the pedagogic practices of initial level education teachers from Pumachaca Rural Educational Network. (REN) when teaching Spanish as a second language taking the communicative approach as a reference. For this purpose, the qualitative methodology was used considering as techniques, the semi-structured interview, the documentary analysis and the qualitative observation. In the same way, due to the pandemic situation some netnography techniques were used to conclude the information collection. The performed analysis allowed the approximation to the teachers practices in a second language teaching. It was possible to identify deficiencies in the application of the communicative approach. That means, learning activities that are not framed in a communicative situation, which makes the construction of the meaning difficult. As well as, the use of strategies that only promote teacher-student dialogue, limiting opportunities for the language use and practice. The conclusions of this analysis will contribute to the dialogue and reflection that lead to establishing more appropriate proposals for the teaching of Spanish as a second language, not only in Pumachaca REN but also in areas with similar characteristics.
