Sumario: | In their 2022 report, the World Health Organization (WHO) informed that by 2019 near one of five persons suffering from an Eating Disorder were minors. Since then, it has been documented that many adolescents start and finish their days reviewing contents in social media, which promote an unobtainable beauty ideal as well as nutritional information. This study aimed to identify the relationship between social media exposure and ED symptoms among adolescents. A literature search was conducted in five data bases following some PRISMA parameters, including 10 articles, fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria. A positive correlation between social media exposure and ED symptomatology in adolescents was found, with a similar frequency in males and females. We conclude that comparison of body image in social media induces cognitive and behavioral symptoms related to ED. The most commonly developed symptoms by adolescents with respect to social media are body dissatisfaction and concern for nutrition and weight. |
