With the aim of exploring the relationship between urbanization, the environment, and experiences of social innovation, this paper reflects on a process of dialogue between universities, the state, and the community of San Carlos de Bariloche (Río Negro, Argentina) aimed at promoting agroecology in urban gardens. The multi-stakeholder coordination in research, outreach, and technology transfer combined participatory action research strategies with the use of qualitative and quantitative tools. It is argued that strengthening local capacities is essential to promoting sustainable transitions in urban ecosystems. The relevance of co-production and co-design approaches for urban planning and urban-environmental studies is highlighted.Los efectos de las transformaciones territoriales contemporáneas impulsan a repensar las ciudades desde enfoques innovadores. La gestión de los sistemas socioalimentarios representa un gran desafío ante el avance de la expansión de la frontera urbana y productiva. La agroecología ofrece herramientas viables para su rediseño, combinando principios ecológicos, económicos y sociales. Con el objetivo de explorar la relación entre urbanización, medioambiente y experiencias de innovación social, este trabajo reflexiona sobre un proceso de diálogo de saberes entre universidad, Estado y la comunidad de San Carlos de Bariloche (Río Negro, Argentina), orientado a promover la agroecología en huertas urbanas. La articulación multiactoral en instancias de investigación, extensión y vinculación tecnológica combinó estrategias de investigación-acción participativas con el uso de herramientas cualitativas y cuantitativas. Se argumenta que el fortalecimiento de las capacidades locales es cardinal para promover transiciones sustentables en ecosistemas urbanos.
