For this purpose, a multidimensional index of active ageing is estimated for each individual, as well as its distribution in each country. This strategy makes it possible to measure inequalities in the ageing process, and also to consider different value judgements in the overall assessment of well-being during ageing. Thus, the study sheds light on discrepancies in the quality of ageing within and between countries. Furthermore, individual factors associated with the degree of inequality in active ageing are analysed by means of regressions using Gini re-centred influence functions. A higher proportion of people with secondary education and better access to water and sewerage services is found to be associated with reduced inequality in active ageing. Country-level variables — such as health expenditure, pension coverage, access to health care and the poverty rate among older people — are key in explaining between-country differences in active ageing.application/pdfengSpringerUSurn:issn:1573-8701info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0The Journal of Economic Inequality; (2025)reponame:PUCP-Institucionalinstname:Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perúinstacron:PUCPActive ageingOld ageInequalityWell-beingLatin AmericaEnvejecimiento—Aspectos económicos--América LatinaIgualdad--América LatinaBienestar—América Latinahttps://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#5.06.01Ageing unequally in Latin Americainfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleArtículoORIGINALs10888-025-09688-3.pdfTexto completoapplication/pdf795259https://repositorio.pucp.edu.pe/bitstreams/409af096-c32a-4dfe-9c25-a68bcce8cb97/downloade65feb98e15c3a6bd0c1fd6116bcea16MD51trueAnonymousREADTEXTs10888-025-09688-3.pdf.txts10888-025-09688-3.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain91804https://repositorio.pucp.edu.pe/bitstreams/893e7860-01d5-4077-a02c-beb6386ac231/download9574fad6ca08326b7d613b804c894c8eMD52falseAnonymousREADTHUMBNAILs10888-025-09688-3.pdf.jpgs10888-025-09688-3.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg17177https://repositorio.pucp.edu.pe/bitstreams/7e984874-47fe-4c99-8512-e63146833475/download3dffb4b372536d17d7c7e835765af741MD53falseAnonymousREAD20.500.14657/205119oai:repositorio.pucp.edu.pe:20.500.14657/2051192025-11-18T17:00:26.758450Zhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessopen.accesshttps://repositorio.pucp.edu.peRepositorio Institucional de la PUCPrepositorio@pucp.pe
