In order to do so, the author analyzes the definition of the gender wage gap statistical indicator, and the current state of the gender wage gap in Peru, as well as its causes. After that, the author evaluates Equal Pay Law and its Regulation under the lens of international law just to conclude that Equal pay related legislation is consistent with the obligation of the Peruvian Government to adopt measures to overcome de facto inequality situation arisen between men and women in the workplace. Finally, the author identifies the challenges arisen by Equal pay legislation, which, even though could be considered a good first step to eliminate gender wage gap, shall be complemented by additional measures aimed to question gender roles and stereotypes.Este artículo tiene por objeto reflexionar en torno al complejo fenómeno que es la brecha salarial por género en el Perú y la idoneidad de las medidas adoptadas por el Estado Peruano para eliminar este problema. Para ello, la autora analiza la definición y uso del indicador brecha salarial por género en sus diferentes vertientes, además del estado de la cuestión de este fenómeno en el Perú, así como sus causas. Luego de ella la autora aborda la promulgación de la Ley de Igualdad Salarial y su Reglamento de cara a la normativa internacional sobre igualdad salarial a fin de concluir que la promulgación de esta normativa se condice con la obligación del Estado peruano de adoptar medidas conducentes a superar situaciones de desigualdad de facto entre hombres y mujeres en el plano laboral.
