Descripción
Sumario:Background: There are research related with the transport time, weight and way of carrying the backpack that generate a shoulder pain, having as average between 42 and 46%; they recommend to carry the backpack for a maximum of 20 minutes, with both handles and that it should not overcome 10% of body weight. Objective: Determine the frequency of shoulder pain in students at a school caused by excessive weight, the inadequate way of carrying backpack and the long transport time of this. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 131 students from 12 to 17 years old. For data collection, we prepared a questionnaire with questions to mark and fill in regarding shoulder pain, shape, weight and transportation time that students carry the backpack, in the case of shoulder pain, we included the Visual Analogue Scale to determine the intensity. Using a scale, the student was weighed without shoes or jacket and then his backpack. Results: The prevalence of shoulder pain was 83.21%, we did not find any significant association between shoulder pain with the weight, inadequate way of carrying and the long transport time of the backpack. Conclusions: Although in this study we did not find a significant association, 83.21% of the students had shoulder pain, it could have been due to their daily activities or strong, sudden or repetitive movements that affect the shoulder.
