Se evaluaron 148 casos (no adherentes) y 148 controles (adherentes). Las variables independientes fueron: alfabetización sanitaria, edad, grado de instrucción, tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad, comorbilidad y número de visitas al médico en los últimos 12 meses. Se realizó un análisis bivariado y multivariado aplicando un modelo de regresión logística múltiple. Resultados: La alfabetización sanitaria no estaba asociada a la no-adherencia al tratamiento en pacientes con DM2. Los factores asociados a la no-adherencia al tratamiento fueron: un nivel socioeconómico bajo (OR 5.55; IC 95%, 1.71 - 18.03), comorbilidad alta (OR 2.9; IC 95%, 1.06 - 4.13) y tiempo de enfermedad de 1 a 10 años de diabetes (OR 2.00; IC 95%, 1.29 - 3.30). Conclusiones: La alfabetización sanitaria no se asoció a la no-adherencia al tratamiento en pacientes con DM2. Sin embargo, los factores asociados fueron: nivel socioeconómico bajo, tiempo de enfermedad de 1 a 10 años y comorbilidad alta.

Objective: To determine the association between health literacy and other factors with adherence to treatment in patients with DM2. Materials and methods: This is an observational, analytical, case-control study that included patients with a diagnosis of DM2 greater than or equal to one year. 148 cases (non-adherent) and 148 controls (adherent) were evaluated. The independent variables were: health literacy, age, level of education, time of evolution of the disease, comorbidity and number of visits to the doctor in the last 12 months. A bivariate and multivariate analysis was performed applying a multiple logistic regression model. Results: Health literacy was not associated with non-adherence to treatment in patients with DM2. The factors associated with non-adherence to treatment were: a low socioeconomic level (OR 5.55; 95% CI, 1.71 - 18.03), high comorbidity (OR 2.9; 95% CI, 1.06 - 4.13) and time of illness from 1 to 10 years of diabetes (OR 2.00; 95% CI, 1.29 - 3.30).
