De Quito a Lima: el pintor itinerante Vicente Pazmiño (1827-1861)

En 1852, el pintor ecuatoriano Vicente Pazmiño obtuvo el premio del primer concurso de la Escuela Democrática Miguel de Santiago, por la serie de cuadros Los Reyes de Judá. Pero el maestro no vio posibilidades de ejercer su profesión en su ciudad natal, y emprendió su viaje a Perú. Así, en este artículo nos aproximamos a la situación de los pintores itinerantes de Ecuador que arribaron a Lima amediados del siglo XIX, para luego presentar el caso de Pazmiño y su producción pictórica. A través de la revisión de documentación de época y de referencias secundarias, estudiaremos el entorno histórico y artístico de este personaje poco conocido. Palabras clave: pintura, itinerante, Vicente Pazmiño, Quito, Lima.   AbstractIn 1852, the Ecuadorian painter Vicente Pazmiñó won the prize in the first competition of the Escuela Democrática Miguel de Santiago, for the series of paintings of The Kings of Judah. But the master did not see the possibility of practicing his profession in his native city, and set out on his journey to Peru. Thus in this article we approach the situation of the itinerant painters of Ecuador who arrived in Limain the mid-nineteenth century, and then present the case of Pazmiño and his pictorial production. Through the review of period documentation and secondary references, we will study the historical and artistic environment of this little known character.
