Finally, the article argues some problems related to the general development of the Peruvian economy.El artículo señala la especificidad de la historia económica regional del sur peruano, que entre 1780 y 1840 tuvo un crecimiento económico importante mientras en el resto del virreinato se sufría una grave crisis económica. Este hecho importante resulta poco conocido debido a las pocas investigaciones de la historia regional en el Perú. Se presenta información sobre la dinámica del comercio internacional y su relación con la economía del sur.
