The findings confirm the central role of families, particularly of women in ensuring a welfare regime for the older adult population and mitigate the effects of social unprotection.El artículo explora la organización de los cuidados transnacionales proporcionados a personas mayores en cuyos casos uno de sus hijos radica en el extranjero. A partir de entrevistas realizadas principalmente con madres mayores, se analizan la articulación entre los cuidados recibidos a nivel local y a distancia, las prácticas que brindan para cuidar a familiares, y sus actividades de autocuidado para mantenerse en una vejez «independiente».
