To that effect, the author carries out a theoretical analysis of financial repression and describes its evolution in the Peruvian economy, on the basis of a survey of informal lenders done by GRADE. His study brings him to conclude that the situation of repression has diminished the intermediating role and the attractiveness of the financial system, thus favouring the development of the informal market. He then proposes some steps that must be taken to correct this situation.El presente artículo tiene como objetivo explicar cómo la insuficiencia del desarrollo del sistema financiero y sus características propias de funcionamiento guardan una estrecha relación con el surgimiento y la evolución del mercado informal de capitales , en general, y de los prestamistas individuales, en particular. Para ello el autor realiza una discusión teórica sobre la represión financiera y describe su evolución en la economía peruana, a la vez que presenta una caracterización de los prestamistas informales en base a una encuesta realizada por GRADE.
