This study examines the plans that led to the construction of these irrigation systems in the north of the country, a multiregional space that comprises about 60 percent of Mexican territory, and whose main characteristic is its aridity.Mercados en expansión, tecnologías derivadas de la segunda revolución industrial,apremiantes necesidades gubernamentales y lo que podría denominarse unapolítica de Estado hicieron posible en el México postrevolucionario la construcciónde grandes sistemas de irrigación. Mediante ello, la frontera agrícola logróexpandirse durante el siglo XX en millones de hectáreas.
