This article explores the landscape of the northern coastal desert of Peru and the water challenges it faces, particularly in Piura, one of the regions most affected by water scarcity. Aiming to propose solutions for integrated and sustainable water management, this work, based on research conducted with architecture students from the University of Piura, analyzes the implementation of concepts such as Ecological Infrastructure (EI), Water-Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), and Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in the city’s public spaces. These strategies seek to overcome recurring water risks, maximize efficient water use, and improve the management of wastewater, stormwater, and groundwater, contributing to human health and well-being. A water-sensitive proposal can be key to transforming the city into a sustainable and resilient space.La urbanización ha impulsado el desarrollo económico y mejorado la calidad de vida, pero también ha generado problemas ambientales como la contaminación y una gestión inadecuada del agua. Este artículo explora el paisaje del desierto costero norperuano y los desafíos hídricos que enfrenta, especialmente en Piura, una de las regiones más afectadas por la escasez de agua. Con el objetivo de proponer soluciones para una gestión integrada y sostenible del agua, este trabajo —que se basa en investigaciones realizadas con alumnos de arquitectura de la Universidad de Piura— analiza la implementación de conceptos como Infraestructura Ecológica (IE), Diseño Urbano Sensible al Agua (DUSA) y Soluciones Basadas en la Naturaleza (SBN) en los espacios públicos de la ciudad. Estas estrategias buscan superar los riesgos hídricos recurrentes, maximizar el uso eficiente del agua y mejorar la gestión de aguas residuales, de lluvia y subterráneas, contribuyendo a la salud y el bienestar humano.
