description The Klingler dissection technique is a modified brain fixation and dissection strategy that uses freezing and thawing to reveal white matter tracts. It has been widely employed in brain anatomical investigations, allowing a better understanding of the cerebral hemispheres’ complex organization. It is notable for its usefulness in the separation of white and gray matters, facilitating the dissection of fiber tracts and providing a three-dimensional understanding of the architecture of white matter systems. Objective: Examine the historical evolution, protocols, and educational, medical, and surgical applications of the Klingler dissection technique. Method: A literature review of academic articles on the topic was conducted through the exploration of databases such as SciELO, Scopus, Medline, and Google Scholar. A total of 3,521 articles of interest were identified, of which 53 were selected for evaluation. Finally 22 serving to assess the Klingler dissection protocol. Results: We addressed the historical background, application, and protocol of the Klingler method, along with its integration with technological innovations. The use of the technique in surgical approaches and post-application histological findings was also analyzed, highlighting its relevance in neuroanatomy and brain surgery. Conclusions: The Klingler white matter dissection method has been of fundamental usefulness in neuroscience, allowing for detailed anatomical descriptions, and being highly relevant in education at different academic levels.

Ha sido ampliamente empleada en investigaciones anatómicas cerebrales, permitiendo comprender la compleja organización de los hemisferios cerebrales. Destaca por su utilidad en la separación de sustancia blanca y gris, que facilita la disección de tractos de fibras y brinda comprensión tridimensional de la arquitectura de sistemas de sustancia blanca. Objetivo: Examinar la evolución histórica, los protocolos y las aplicaciones educativas, médicas y quirúrgicas de la técnica de disección Klingler. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de artículos académicos sobre la técnica de disección Klingler, utilizando bases de datos como SciELO, Scopus, Medline y Google Académico. Se identificaron 3521 artículos de interés, de los cuales se seleccionaron 53 para su evaluación; y de estos 22 sirvieron para evaluar el protocolo de disección Klingler. Resultados: Se revisaron las bases históricas, la aplicación y el protocolo del método Klingler, y su adaptación con innovaciones tecnológicas. También se analizó su uso en abordajes quirúrgicos y hallazgos histológicos luego de su aplicación, mostrando su relevancia en la neuroanatomía y la cirugía cerebral.
