The study aimed to describe the perception of Huancavelica residents regarding animal welfare in relation to bullfighting events. A survey consisting of 42 statements with Likert scale responses was applied to evaluate the following components: knowledge of animal welfare, animal mistreatment for pleasure, animal mistreatment due to ignorance, and the Animal Protection and Welfare Law. A total of 197 surveys were collected, corresponding to 125 men and 72 women. The majority of respondents demonstrated knowledge about animal welfare and expressed their disapproval of bullfighting. Specifically, 93.4% believed that animals should not be mistreated. 57.9% supported the prohibition of bullfighting in Huancavelica. 28.4% reported attending bullfighting events frequently, and 25.9% considered it an enjoyable activity. 69.0% affirmed that bullfighting violated the rights of fighting bulls, and 68.0% noted that the bull suffered during the event. 42.6% of Huancavelica residents did not consider bullfighting to be part of their culture, and 40.6% claimed to be aware of Law No. 30407, the Animal Protection and Welfare Law. They also expressed their opinions on the exclusion of fighting bulls from this law. The information obtained may serve to reopen the debate on the use of animals in cultural events and to assess its impact on animal welfare. |

Para ello, se aplicó una encuesta compuesta de 42 enunciados con respuesta en escala tipo Likert para evaluar los siguientes componentes: conocimiento sobre bienestar animal, maltrato animal por placer, maltrato animal por desconocimiento y Ley de Protección y Bienestar Animal. Se recopiló 197 encuestas correspondientes a 125 hombres y 72 mujeres. La mayoría de los encuestados tenía conocimiento sobre el bienestar animal y muestran su rechazo a la tauromaquia. El 93.4 % consideraba que los animales no deben ser maltratados. El 57.9 % se encontraba a favor de la prohibición de las corridas de toros en Huancavelica. El 28.4 % mencionó asistir con frecuencia a las corridas de toros y el 25.9 % la consideraba una actividad divertida. El 69.0 % afirmó que las corridas vulneraban los derechos de los toros de lidia y el 68.0 % señaló que el toro sufría durante la corrida. El 42.6 % de los huancavelicanos no consideró a las corridas de toros como parte de su cultura y el 40.6 % manifestó conocer la Ley n.° 30407, Ley de Protección y Bienestar Animal; además, opinó sobre la exclusión de los toros de lidia en dicha ley. La información obtenida puede servir para reabrir el debate sobre el uso de animales en espectáculos culturales y valorar su impacto en el bienestar animal.bem-estar animal em relação às touradas. Um total de 197 enquetes foram coletadas de 125 homens e 72 mulheres. A maioria dos entrevistados tinha conhecimento sobre o bem-estar animal e emonstrou sua rejeição à tauromaquia. 93,4% consideraram que os animais não devem ser maltratados. 57,9% estavam a favor da proibição das touradas em Huancavelica. 28,4% mencionaram assistir a touradas com frequência e 25,9% consideraram uma atividade divertida. 69.0% disseram que as touradas violavam os direitos dos touros de lide e 68.0% disseram que o touro sofria durante a tourada. 42,6% dos moradores de Huancavelica não consideraram as touradas como parte de sua cultura e 40,6% afirmaram conhecer a Lei 30407, Lei de Proteção e Bem-Estar Animal; também expressaram sua opinião sobre a exclusão dos touros de lide nessa lei.
