Descripción
Sumario:This study evaluated the application of the Fenton process for the removal of non-biodegradable organic matter, measured as chemical oxygen demand (COD), in the effluent of the San Jerónimo WWTP, Cusco. A Box-Behnken factorial design was used to optimize the concentrations of Fe²⁺, H₂O₂, and pH. The initial characterization of the effluent showed a pH of 7.8, COD of 180 mg/L, BOD of 75 mg/L, oils and greases of 5 mg/L, total suspended solids of 150 mg/L, and a temperature of 20°C. A total of 15 experiments were conducted with two replicates, resulting in 45 tests. The results indicated a high COD removal efficiency, reaching a maximum of 89.0% in experiment No. 9 with 60 mg/L of Fe²⁺, 600 mg/L of H₂O₂, and a pH of 3.0, confirming the feasibility of the Fenton process as an effective alternative for improving wastewater treatment in conventional plants.
