Has recently published the third edition of the Guidelines for the treatment of malaria, the World Health Organization, which emphasizes the following points: early diagnosis and prompt and effective treatment of the disease; rational use of antimalarials to ensure that only confirmed cases of malaria have received antimalarial agents; the use of combination therapy to prevent or delay the development of resistance; and the proper dosage of antimalarial based on weight, so as to ensure a useful therapeutic life and the opportunity to cure the same for all patients. The Guidelines include recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of uncomplicated malaria and severe malaria, especially in populations at risk (small children, pregnant women, patients with tuberculosis or HIV / AIDS and non-immune travelers), in such situations as epidemics and humanitarian emergencies, and the use of drugs to prevent malaria in groups at risk (1).
