In the laboratory, an extender (fat-free milk, egg yolk and fructose) was used to obtain sperm cells from the caudal part of the epididymis. The cells were washed twice with 1 mL of PBS and centrifuged. It was added 100 µL of CellEvent™ Caspase 3/7 Green Detection Reagent to the product and incubated at 37.5 °C for 30 min, while 0.5 µL of Propidium Iodide was added 10 minutes before the end of the incubation, as a marker of cell death. The reading was done by flow cytometry. The mean ± standard deviation of sperm cells with caspase 3/7 activation was 36.21 ± 11.25%, confidence interval from 31.34 to 41.08% and a coefficient of variation of 31.07%. The data presented a normal distribution according to the Kolmogorv-Smirnov test. The correlations between spermatozoa with activated caspases 3/7 with the weight and volume of the testis and with sperm motility and concentration were not significant. It is estimated between 31 to 41% of alpaca epididymal spermatozoa are in the process of apoptosis.El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la proporción de células espermáticas de alpaca (Vicugna pacos) con caspasas-3/7 de forma activada. Se emplearon los epidídimos de 23 pares de testículos obtenidos del Camal Municipal de Huancavelica, Perú. En el laboratorio se empleó un dilutor (leche libre de grasa, yema de huevo y fructuosa) para la obtención de las células espermáticas de la parte caudal del epidídimo. Las células fueron sometidas a dos lavados con 1 mL de PBS y centrifugados. Al producto se le agregó 100 µL de CellEvent™ Caspasa 3/7 Green Detection Reagent y se incubó a 37.5 °C durante 30 min, mientras que 0.5 µL de Ioduro de Propidio fue agregado 10 minutos antes de finalizar la incubación, como marcador de muerte celular. La lectura se hizo mediante citometría de flujo. La media ± desviación estándar de células espermáticas con activación de caspasas 3/7 fue de 36.21 ± 11.25%, intervalo de confianza de 31.34 a 41.08% y un coeficiente de variación de 31.07%. Los datos presentaron una distribución normal de acuerdo con la prueba Kolmogorv-Smirnov. Las correlaciones entre espermatozoides con caspasas 3/7 activada con el peso y volumen del testículo y con la motilidad y concentración espermática no fueron significativas.
