Descripción
Sumario:Objectives: collection, digitalization, structuring and analysis of data from patients affected by tegumentary leishmaniasis seen in Centro Médico Santa Teresa in Abancay (Peru), between 1986 and 2006, aiming a meticulous description of both the sample and the pathology. Materials and methods: collection of the files, digitalization through photographs, design of the database (586 patients and 63 variables) and statistical analysis. Results: the demographic description includes age, sex (94% males), formation (primary for almost 50%), occupation (48% agriculture, 28% mining), region where the contagion took place (almost 60% in Madre de Dios), frequency of each clinical form (89% were sylvatic, mostly cutaneous) and number and distribution of the lesions. The characterization of each clinical form is developed from characteristics of the pathology itself and of those of the patient, the environment and the vector. These are also taken into account for the evaluation of the implementation of the different preventive and protective measures (mosquito nets, chemical repellents and the use of smoke as a repellent).
