Twenty-five pigeons (24 Columba livia and one Zenaida auriculata) were captured in La Plata, Buenos Aires, between May and June 2019. Oropharyngeal/choana and then cloacal swabs were taken from each bird. RNA extraction was performed with Trizol®. For the analysis, 5 μl of total RNA was used for complementary DNA (cDNA) synthesis. The reaction was carried out using multiplex PCR (mPCR) as screening methodology in a final volume of 25 μl. This multiplex PCR amplifies six viruses. As a positive control, a sample previously isolated and characterized in the authors' laboratory as Israeli acute paralysis virus (IAPV) was used, and whose presence was confirmed by screening using specific primers, for a simple PCR, that amplify 185 bp. Fifteen of the samples (60%) were positive for IAPV in both the multiplex PCR and the specific PCR. Additional studies are required to explore the pathogenicity of dicistroviruses in pigeons and to determine if these viruses are the same ones that affect the pollinator community.Los Dicistrovirus son una familia de virus que afectan invertebrados de importancia sanitaria y económica. Las palomas son, asimismo, reservorios naturales de patógenos que han causado enfermedades emergentes y reemergentes en el humano. Se capturaron 25 palomas (24 Columba livia y una Zenaida auriculata) en La Plata, Buenos Aires, entre mayo y junio de 2019. Se tomaron hisopados de orofaringe/coana y luego cloacal de cada ave. Se realizó la extracción de ARN con Trizol®. Se utilizaron 5 μl del ARN total para la síntesis de ADN complementario (ADNc). La reacción se llevó a cabo utilizando una PCR múltiple (mPCR) como metodología de screening en un volumen final de 25 μl. Esta PCR múltiple amplifica seis virus. Como control positivo se utilizó una muestra previamente aislada y caracterizada en el laboratorio de los autores como virus de la parálisis aguda israelí (IAPV), y cuya presencia fue confirmada mediante screening utilizando cebadores específicos, para una PCR simple, que amplifican 185 pb. Quince de las muestras (60%) fueron positivas a IAPV tanto en la PCR múltiple como en la PCR específica.
