This new building replaced the old one located at Santa Ana’s Square, then Italia’s Square and now Raimondi’s Square, in Cercado de Lima suburb, where the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of San Fermando functioned since 1808 and later the Faculty of Medicine of Lima since 1856. The decision to create this new building was due to President Pierola’s rule in 1897, the work was started in 1899 and inaugurated by President Romaña.El 6 de setiembre de 1903 se inauguró el local de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Mayor de San Marcos de Lima con frente a la Avenida Grau y contiguo al Jardín Botánico. Este nuevo local reemplazó a la antigua sede situada en la Plaza de Santa, después Plaza Italia y hoy Plaza Raimondi, en el sector del Cercado de Lima, donde habían funcionado el Real Colegio de Medicina y Cirugía de San Fernando, desde 1808, y luego la Facultad de Medicina de Lima desde 1856.
