This latter engage us with the accomplishment of some minimal outlines in order to assure an adequate practice of Medicine. We emphasize here the necessity of a certification that must preserve the capacity of the physician who works in our country. Moreover, we propose the conformation of a National System of Certification for the faculties of Medicine and its goals are pointed out. Besides, we made a review of certification patterns from other countries.En la actualidad, el público pide garantías acerca de la capacidad y la confiabilidad de los médicos encargados de su cuidado. Esto nos compromete al cumplimiento de ciertos parámetros mínimos con el fin de asegurar el ejercicio apropiado de la Medicina. Se resalta aquí la necesidad de la acreditación como instrumento que preserve la idoneidad del médico que trabaja en nuestro país. Argumentaremos, a su vez, cómo el cumplimiento de estos criterios enaltecen la calidad de una facultad de medicina. Asimismo, se propone la conformación de un Sistema Nacional de Acreditación de Facultades de Medicina y se señalan sus objetivos.
