The domestication of plants and animals, caused substantial changes in the behavior of sedentary societies, the new economy and technology innovation brought with major social and political transformations. The food producing economy profoundly changed human mentality. In every village, in every village, surplus production led to the emergence of specialists and complexity of society as a whole. How happened? Many specialists study the causes of great transformation, some refer to as the «broad spectrum revolution»; others claim it is the result of awareness of the benefits provided by the insurance resources; however, others consider as evidence of livelihood strategies and population pressure. One detailed chronological list of the main plants and animals domesticated in Asia, Mesoamerica and the Central Andes is presented.La revolución agrícola constituye el primer acontecimiento relevante realizado por los hombres, hace ocho mil años antes del presente, en cinco focos de domesticación y áreas adyacentes, ubicados en el Próximo Oriente, India, China, Mesoamérica y los Andes Centrales. La domesticación de plantas y animales, generó sustanciales cambios en el comportamiento de las sociedades sedentarias. La nueva economía y la innovación de la tecnología trajeron aparejados importantes transformaciones sociales y políticas. La economía productora de alimentos cambió profundamente la mentalidad humana. En cada aldea, en cada poblado, los excedentes de producción ocasionaron la aparición de especialistas y la complejización de la sociedad en su conjunto. ¿Cómo ocurrió? Muchos especialistas estudian las causales de la gran transformación, unos se refieren como la «revolución de amplio espectro»; otros, afirman que es el resultado de la toma de conciencia de las ventajas que proporcionan los recursos seguros; en cambio, otros consideran como evidencia de las estrategias de subsistencia y la presión demográfica.
