| Sumario: | Luis Rodríguez Rivero, a university professor and architect committed to urban and social improvement in Peruvian slums, attempts a two-pronged critique here: on the one hand, against the thought of Luis Miró Quesada (1914-1994) and the modern ideals of the postwar period; and on the other, against the contemporary architecture of Lima's Asian seaside resort, an ostentatious symbol of neoliberal urbanism. Although his prologue announces the goal of building an elite committed to freedom and equality, his book ends by questioning the foundations of modern architecture in a country where it has never fully established itself. |
