Taking into account the latest knowledge of Chavin’s architectural sequence, the paper formulates from a hydraulics viewpoint a proposal for the construction stages of the canal networks and explores the growth of knowledge implied by this process.Ante el hallazgo de nuevos canales en el centro ceremonial de Chavín de Huántar, el presente artículo profundiza el estudio de los orígenes y usos del sistema de canales –principalmente el drenaje pluvial y ceremonias rituales, así como un posible abastecimiento de agua– y explora la influencia de este conocimiento en construcciones pre-colombinas posteriores.
