Sumario: In an era of environmental influence and the search for social solutions with a sustainable approach, the municipal authorities rehearse economic options with an environmental approach that contribute to the solution of the problems that affect their cities. One of them is the Municipal Solid Waste Management. The objective of the present investigation was to demonstrate which management mod- el-public, private or mixed- for the management of municipally managed solid waste is financially and environmentally sustainable over time. The methodology applied was exploratory and explanatory. It is said to be exploratory because in Peru there are no investigations with these variables and it is explanatory because it is a causal investigation that analyzed the solid waste management models at the municipal level. The results of the research show that mixed management for the management of solid waste is sustainable in the two variables, namely: in the financial and environmental component, with a favorable impact on the conservation of the environment.
