The analytical determina-tion of free cyanide was obtained using the silver ni-trate method. It was observed that among the average values (0.13 and 0.14) of free cyanide (ppm) there were no significant (p<0.05) statistical differences, being those values superior to the maximum values allowed by current regulations. We concluded that the mining effluents were being poured with considerable exposi-tions to free cyanide.El objetivo de la invesigación fue determinar la expo-sición a cianuro libre en efluentes mineros correspon-dientes a la Planta Artesanal Poderosa Ananea, Puno. Para ello, fueron muestreados efluentes tanto en perío-do de lluvia como poca lluvia, seleccionándose cuatro muestras representativas y estableciéndose tres réplicas. La determinación analítica de cianuro libre fue realiza-da mediante el método del nitrato de plata. Fue obser-vado que entre los valores promedios (0.13 y 0.14) de cianuro libre (ppm), no se encontraron diferencias esta-dísticamente significativas (p≤0.05), siendo los mismos superiores a los valores permisibles regulatorios.
